On July 9, 2020 the Ceremony of Delivery of Vessels to Sports Training Centers was held as part of the School Sports program in Barreiro, Portugal.
These vessels - 18 Laser Picos and 7 Semi-rigid units - were acquired by the Directorate-General for Education, School Sports Division and are intended for School Groups that have been involved in the Barreiro Nautical Activities Sports Training Center.
This event was chaired by the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Rebelo, who highlighted the importance of the partnership between School Sports, Directorate-General for Education, the Portuguese Institute for Sports and Youth, the municipalities, and school groups involved in sports development (namely, nautical sports due to the increase in support and the number of Sports Training Centers). Thereby, widening the range of access to sport as part of School Sports.
This ceremony was also attended the President of the IPDJ, Vitor Pataco, for Barreiro's City Council, Frederico Rosa, the National Coordinator of School Sports, Rui de Carvalho and all centres of sports training with boats.
School Sports currently has 73 Sports Training Centers, of which 59 are for nautical activities and are an important means of developing these modalities. These Centers are actively involved in School Groups, in partnership with other entities such as Municipal Councils, Parish Councils, Sports Federations, Associations, Clubs and other civil society entities.
